February 10 - Middle Tennessee State University Event

"Sound Reproduction, Perception and Acoustical Engineering"

Dr. Floyd Toole

Dr. Floyd Toole is a scientist recognized worldwide for his expertise in acoustical engineering. His research has focused on the acoustics and psychoacoustics of sound reproduction in small rooms, and his work has led to improvements in loudspeaker design, engineering measurements, and techniques for reducing variability in acoustic performance within sound-studio control rooms, living spaces and home theatres.

Dr. Toole’s lecture will be an engaging and accessible overview of issues that affect music fans, record producers, mixing engineers,

equipment designers, film buffs and audiophiles alike.  This is a must-hear (and must-see) event for anyone who wants to ensure that

recorded sound is heard as intended by its creators.

"Spring Mixer"

This is the annual student mixing competition. Students from surrounding area schools' audio production departments compete for prizes and are critiqued by a stellar panel of judges. Each team is given the same set of professionally recorded studio tracks an eight hours to mix the song down to a stereo pre-master track. The judges listen to the tracks which are submitted anonymously and critique the mixes and grade them on a standard set of criteria. This is a popular educational event and well worth attending. The coveted "Top Mixer" perpetual trophy goes the winning school. Prizes are given out to all participants.
